Best Buy Mobile Provides Knowledgeable Service

Renewing my cell phone contract is one of my least favorite activities.  A necessary evil.  Up until this past experience, I’ve always gone straight to the service provider’s kiosk or store to upgrade my phone and renew the plan.  This time around, however, I ventured into my local Best Buy (on a friend’s advice) to deal with the anticipated hassle.

I’m a frequent Best Buy customer, but I’ve rarely visited their mobile department.  To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what the purpose was if all providers now have their own locations.  I’m happy to say that I was pleasantly … Read More »

Fabulous Gifts For The Fashionista

Shopping for the woman who seems to have everything, including an impeccable taste in fashion, can be a terrifying ordeal. Naturally, you’ll want to avoid shoes, clothes, accessories…because your thoughts on what’s “fashionable” could be way off base. Even if they’re not, how can you be sure she doesn’t already have that adorable Vera Bradley bag? Exactly.

But there’s no need to panic yet. Take a moment and think about the fashionista in your life. Outside of looking great, what are her interests? Is she an avid reader, a frugal shopper, someone who loves the occasional pampering treatment? … Read More »

An Excellent Holiday Shopping Experience at Target

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday full of plenty of yuletide cheer!  Now that the holiday shopping season has (thankfully) come to a close, I’ve finally given in to the annual horror that comes with checking my post-holiday shopping bank account balance. I liken it to removing a band aid, in that I like to do it quickly to minimize the sting. Yesterday afternoon when I was finally good and ready – thanks to a glass or two of wine- I tore open the envelope from my bank, and… SHOCK AND AWE. But, wait, what is this? Shock and … Read More »

Service Review: Netflix

Recently, my local Hollywood Video location closed its doors for good. I pulled up on a Tuesday, the day new releases came out, only to find a dark, empty store with a sad little note on the door “Gone out of Business”. Consider it a sign of the times, with Comcast On Demand, Netflix, Redbox and a host of other ways to download movies on the internet, movie rental shops are slowly and sadly going the way of the travel agency: unnecessary in today’s user-friendly digital era.

I had been a member of this particular location for nearly a decade, … Read More »

Money Saving Ideas on Gifts

Being frugal equates to having more money for the things that you really desire in life. While being cheap with others often ricochets into situations that make you unhappy, watching your wallet is another matter. Shopping smart can also mean shopping well and getting multiple presents for your significant other for the price a less observant person would have spent on only one.

When it comes to gift giving, the trick is to look for the exact present that you would give to your loved one if you weren’t on a budget, then seeking a good deal on the product. … Read More »

Review Of The Book “Notes From The Underwire” By Quinn Cummings

Quinn Cummings released her book this past summer; it’s called “Notes from the Underwire: Adventures from My Awkward and Lovely Life”. It’s published by Hyperion Books. I highly recommend it. She’s an author who can take you through a trail of emotions, laughing until you realize the tears also coming from your eyes at the rich humanity and heart beneath the true humor of her words. Look for Amazon coupon codes and Barnes & Noble coupons before picking it up.Cummings-book

The fun tone of the book is set from the cover, an image from a Maidenform “I Dreamed of” campaign. … Read More »

Nintendo’s Wii Fit Plus Is New, Improved And Fun

Wii Fit PlusPossibly the most exciting gift under my Christmas tree this year was the new Nintendo Wii Fit Plus game and balance board.  I’ve wanted to own a Wii Fit system since they were first launched, but after playing this new version, I’m happy that I waited for the Plus version’s debut.

Launched on October 4, 2009, the Wii Fit Plus promises “a revolutionary way for consumers to create their own customized workout, delivering new levels of personalization, convenience and enjoyment to at-home fitness.”  So far, game users and critics are in agreement, and sales are doing well for the new … Read More »

Review of Melissa Gilbert’s “Prairie Tale: a Memoir”

Prairie Tale

Melissa Gilbert grew up playing the role of Laura Ingalls in front of millions in the 1970s on Michael Landon’s “Little House on the Prairie.” She was a child superstar, and she is the rare child star who has been able to survive as an actress long after she took the braids out of her famous auburn locks.

In front of the country’s eyes, Melissa seemed to painlessly transcend the role of Laura, playing such meaty roles as Anne Frank and Helen Keller while still in her teens. However, things were not always as peachy as they seemed for young … Read More »

Mall Shopping: Bathroom Tips

When it comes to shopping at the mall, one of those little annoyances may be having to stop and go to the bathroom. With all the bags and packages in your hand, considering stepping into a small stall may seem to be a nightmare. Yet, you probably don’t want to go back to the car, place the items in the trunk, then go in hunt of a restroom. What to do?

1)      Take preventative measures. If you don’t really have to use the bathroom, yet you could, go before you shop. You’ll be much less likely to have to use … Read More »
