Holiday Decorations For Less

When you’re on a budget, I’m sure you'd rather spend your money on gifts than decorations this holiday season. Fortunately, there are lots of ways to get creative with your festive at-home decorations that won't break the bank. Dig out your old ornaments and garlands, get ready to bargain hunt, and try these décor ideas out this holiday season.

Stick to the Classics

Decorate with bright, white lights for a classic look. Tried and true, there's something really breathtaking about a room glowing with white light. Pick up some discount white string lights (Target has some great bargains) and hang these around the room. Trim the tree, the windows, the molding along the top of the wall, the fireplace – whatever you like! If you accent with simple silver garland, you’ll have a glittery, glistening winter wonderland – indoors!

Make Your Own Centerpieces

Take your empty vases and dust them out. You can easily fill these with garland pieces of all different colors and glass ornaments for a classy, straight-out-of-a-magazine flare.  You can easily ‘recycle’ your ornaments missing hooks and broken strands of garland this way.  If you need vases and ornaments, check out the collection at Kmart for some ideas and great prices!

Add Small Touches

Try adding a decorative candy dish. Sometimes a simple glass candy dish (Christmas or not) filled with red, green, and silver wrapped candies says it all. Trim the bottom of the dish if you like with some thin garland and you’ll instantly spruce up any counter or tabletop.  Try Crate & Barrel for some great glass dishes.

Or maybe you can add some decorative towels or linens here and there. If you're not up for decorating every room in the house such as the bathroom and kitchen, just adding a snowman dish towel to the oven door can make a big difference.  Pick up great holiday linens and Linens N Things.

Make Your Own
If you're crafty and ambitious, try sewing your own decorative accents, like a Christmas tree skirt, this year. Patch quilts, pillows, tablecloths, napkins, even a handkerchief for the family pet are all possible with some fabric, thread, and a little time and energy. These kinds of decorations can get costly when you add them all up, so try to make your own and skip a few purchases. Plus, you can stock up on the fabric and create matching table linens or stockings as well!  Check out our coupon codes at Joann.com before you start shopping for supplies!

Decorating for the holidays is a fun, family activity that doesn’t have to cost more than the gifts you put under the tree.  Getting creative with your decorating can save you big bucks in the end, if you know where to look and what to look for.  Try these ideas to get started, but take a look at ShopGala’s Holiday Coupon Codes for more great decorating and seasonal ideas.
