Have you ever wanted to email a text message (or SMS message, to be to someone’s cell phone? Did you know that it’s free and you can do it to just about any cell phone? All you need to know is their 10-digit cell phone number and the service the person is using.
For example, if my friend’s cell phone is 617-555-1212 and they use Verizon Wireless, I can send them a text message via email by using the email address 6175551212@vtext.com.
Here is the list of the major US carriers and the email address you need to use to send them a text message. Each message is free to send and can be sent via email.
| Carrier Name | Email Address |
| Verizon Wireless | 10DigitPhoneNumber@vtext.com |
| AT&T | 10DigitPhoneNumber@txt.att.net |
| T-Mobile | 10DigitPhoneNumber@tmomail.net |
| Sprint PCS (Now Sprint Nextel) | 10DigitPhoneNumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com |
| Nextel (Now Sprint Nextel) | 10DigitPhoneNumber@messaging.nextel.com |
| Virgin Mobile | 10DigitPhoneNumber@vmobl.com |
| US Cellular | 10DigitPhoneNumber@email.uscc.net |
| Alltel | 10DigitPhoneNumber@message.alltel.com |

One more thing, you can also send a text message from your AIM account! It’s true. Just add +1 (the US country code) to any 10-digit cell phone number and send that number an AIM message. For example, if I wanted to send my friend a text message from my AIM I would send an IM to +16175551212. Try it out. Kind of cool, huh?
