JCPenney Review: How to Buy Cheap Gifts after the Holidays

As much as I hate to admit it, every year I'm always tempted to go holiday shopping either right before or right after Christmas — because, as it happens you can actually buy cheap gifts that way. And there's no better place to do so than to head to JCPenney. You might be thinking it's too late to take advantage of any holiday deals, even that it's too late to buy gifts for the ones you love, but that's not so. My family and I have a tacit agreement: if there's something really expensive someone wants and we know we'll be able to get it cheaper the closer it gets to Christmas, we just make sure to get it for the recipient before January 1. Voila! You get to celebrate for an extra week. Besides, for as great as Black Friday deals are, you can save even more in the week between Christmas and New Year's – and at JCPenney, you can save better than you can at almost any other store.

Everyone – even myself – insists that Black Friday is the biggest, craziest shopping day of the year, but when you go shopping any time during the week before Christmas itself, it's even crazier – but there's never a better time to buy cheap gifts. And by that I mean you can buy labels without spending a fortune. Silly me, I went without a coupon, and ended up with a bunch of Philosophy products from the Sephora store in my JCPenney (for the record, that's the North Shore mall in Peabody), retailing for $39.99; a watch, for $50.99; a Nicole Miller handbag that retailed for $175.00 but was on sale for 30% off; a Liz Claiborne handbag retailing for the same price, also with 30% off; and two separate silverware sets, one for $79.95 and one for $49.95. Even with the discounts, things were going to be a little pricey – until, lo and behold, my cashier split my purchases into four separate transactions, flashed a coupon, and left me paying less than $200 – for everything. Totally serious. I was absolutely ecstatic!
