Searching for the Perfect Swimsuit

Finding a decent swimsuit is hard enough for me, let alone finding one that’s perfect.  Yet every year, I keep thinking it will happen.  It doesn’t and I end up with a drawer full of swimsuits I hate.  Too long, too short, too big, too small… none of them fit in all the right places.  It’s very frustrating.

What’s the big deal? When something as skimpy as a swimsuit doesn’t fit your body correctly, it is a big deal.  Made even bigger by the fact that I’ve just had a baby.  Now it’s June, and the hunt is on once more.

I started at Old Navy, where the mix-and-match prints are cute, colorful, and reasonably priced.  I bought a cure one piece for $39.50 online, only to be disappointed when it arrived.  The waist was too short, the bust too big… and the underwire pinched.  Into the drawer it goes.  I thought about getting a tankini set instead, but then remembered last year.  That halter top tankini I bought had no support at all.  I didn’t need another one of those. Don’t get me wrong… I really wish their swimsuits fit me.  I keep trying to make them fit me, but no success yet.

At the mall a few weeks later, I casually checked out the higher-end, much-more-supportive swimsuits in Water, Water Everywhere—a specialty swimsuit store.  The numbers on the price tags made my wallet cry, and the sizes stopped at 10.  Not a very generous size 10 either.  I left, disappointed again, and wishing I looked like the women modeling the swimsuits in the store posters.

So then I did what I should have done in the first place.  I went to ShopGala to check out swimsuit coupons, and maybe find a new retailer to test out.  Why didn’t I think of this in the first place?  The first result that popped up was Swimsuits For All, a specialty online store that sells name brand swimsuits… for all body types and price ranges.  Already, I’m hooked.

Also, we have tons of dollar-off, free shipping, and percent-off coupons. All before I found out that Plus Sizes are on clearance for 50-70% off.  Hooray!

With a little exploration, I found the perfect swimsuit – it even has tummy control panels! Just the thing I need while I get my body after baby back in shape.  The best news is, I got free shipping, 20% and it was already marked down 50% off!  I paid a total of $27.98 for a swimsuit that retails for almost $70!

It was a small victory in a long, difficult war on swimsuits, but I’ll take it.  And who knows? Next summer I’ll just start there and maybe I’ll finish my swimsuit search early.
