Summer Hair Care Products

You might’ve noticed that the change in season has been wreaking havoc on your hair.  Sun, chlorine, humidity, and heat can have some damaging effects on your delicate tresses. By now, you’ve probably realized you’ll need some extra help to keep your hair healthy for the summer season.  But how do you decide which of the many products available are right for you?

Start treating your hair right in the shower with a hydrating shampoo and conditioner.  Try Sunsilk’s Hydra TLC Shampoo and Conditioner, voted the best for dry hair by Allure.  Oprah also included it as one of the top three products for summer hair care.  This uniquely emollient formula gives thirsty hair relief and helps your hair stay hydrated all day long.

To repair damage that already exists, give Aussie’s Cleanse & Mend line a try.  This shampoo and conditioner set will give your roots a deep clean while also repairing the split ends and frazzled tips of your hair.  If you’ve spent too much time in the pool or zapped your hair to pieces with UV rays, this is a great way to reverse that damage.

Once you’re out of the shower, pick styling products that will help to protect your hair throughout the day.  John Frieda Frizz-Ease Thermal Protection Serum is the perfect way to prevent fly-away hairs and frazzled strands from ruining your look.  Keep all your locks neat and contained with this serum, also ranked one of the best summer products by Oprah.

Want to take things a step further?  In my search online, I stumbled upon Priming Spray that will protect your hair (and any hair color) from the effects of the sun (fading, oxidation, etc.).  When sprayed onto the hair it works like a PH-balanced sunscreen to keep color in, but heat and chlorine out.  It’s available from ProfoundBeauty and promises big results.

A similar product is available from L’Oreal.  The EverPure UV Protect Spray is a much more affordable choice with the same big benefits for your lovely locks.  Reviewers of this product claim to use it as both “hair sunscreen” and a leave-in conditioner.  This is a great idea, since rinse-away conditioners that contain UV protection are less effective.  (If you’re rinsing it away, how effective can it really be?)

To keep your hair looking great all summer long, stick with lightweight hair care products that promise moisture, frizz control, and UV protection (where possible).  Salon technology has come a long way, so many such products are now easy to find.
