As a true lover of a good book, and a good bookstore, I often find myself drifting towards the big name booksellers online. Among them, Borders definitely ranks highly on my list—with a clean design, well-organized catalogue, and a representation that spans hardcovers, paperbacks, and now digital formats. Books are what they do best, but that’s not all they have to offer.

One thing the slow economy hasn’t touched is our inherent need for cool tech gadgets. In fact, the Consumer Electronics Association, via USA Today’s article Top tech gifts for 2010, projects that most of us will spend about $232 or more on electronics for the holidays this year. That’s 5% more than Christmas 2009… and that’s just an estimate. With all these new gadgets out there (ahem… iPad), I’ll best almost everyone has at least one new tech toy on their wish list this season.

When the Kindle changed the literary world last year, lots of people rushed out to get one (or frantically ordered one from Amazon.com, I guess). This new e-reader technology would revolutionize the publishing industry and change the way people read and stored their books, Amazon promised. So far, it certainly has shaken things up a bit. Some publishing houses are reluctant to ride this new tech wave and others are jumping in head-first, only to see big sales of digital books.

The one present I most hope is waiting for me underneath the Christmas tree this year is the Amazon Kindle 2 eReader. (To my family members who follow this blog: hint, hint) We briefly touched on the Kindle here when we compared it to other E-Readers such as Sony’s Reader, and Barnes and Noble’s “Nook”.
